Perth Airport – Terminal 2

As part of the upgrade of the Perth Airport a new Domestic Terminal (T2) was designed and constructed adjacent to the International Terminal. The main construction contract for this work was awarded to Broad Construction by the airport operating company Perth Airports Pty Ltd. Broad, in turn, awarded a contract to Glidepath Australia for the design and construction of the baggage handling system.

Amec Services, a Western Australian company, having previously been responsible for similar facilities for Qantas at Perth Airport, were awarded a subcontract, by Glidepath, for the structural and mechanical installation of the required equipment.

The scope of work undertaken by Amec included the installation of “header steel”, hanger rods, catwalks, assembly and installation of conveyor modules, two baggage “makeup” carousels, three arrival carousels oversize baggage facilities and eighteen baggage check in stations.

During the installation phase, Amec site labour were presented with individual site safety awards’ and Glidepath presented with an overall contractor safety award due to the exemplary safety performance of Amec personnel.

All work was completed to the full satisfaction of Glidepath, their client and consultant.

During an inspection by the client’s consultant, he remarked that “this installation was one of the best I have seen in Australia”.

Following the performance of the baggage handling installation contract at Perth Airport, Glidepath Australia awarded a contract to Amec Services for the installation of the baggage handling facilities at Esperance Airport.

The scope of work undertaken by Amec Services at Esperance included the installation of the check in facilities, baggage transfer conveyors and arrival carousel.

All work was completed to the satisfaction of Glidepath and their client.
